FAQ

Why do I need to keep my walls clean?

Porous wall claddings, such as brick and stone walls, that are not periodically cleaned and sealed can be effected by moss and lichen growth, which retain water and secrete acids into the wall. This damages the surface of the cladding and can lead to unsightly discolouration and cause dampness and coldness in your home. Sealing walls keeps dampness out and helps to achieve a cleaner, dryer and healthier home for your family.

How does the WallGuard® Wall Treatment maximise the value of my home?

Although nearly all property values increase over time, some of that value can be lost because of poor street appeal. Good presentation creates a “feel good” perception that will help you to maximise the value of your home.

How does the WallGuard® Maintenance System Work?

The WallGuard® Maintenance System is a three stage process that cleans, restores and seals porous brick and stone wall claddings. Your Edwards & Hardy Representative will discuss this process with you.

Is my Home at risk from the effects of organic growth?

You can easily self-test the porosity of your brick or stone wall cladding. If it darkens after rain or a light spray from your hose your wall cladding is at risk of the discoloration and dampness effects of organic growth. In particular watch for mould growth on the South and East facing sides of your Home where plants and trees touch or shade your property.

Will the walls look different after treatment?

On completion of the WallGuard® program your walls will have an “as new” appearance. The timing between each of the three stages of the WallGuard® Maintenance program will depend on the condition of your walls at the outset of the process.

My walls are clean and my home is near new. Do I need all three stages of the WallGuard® program?

No. New or very clean walls can be treated with the WallGuard® Wall Sealer directly. Naturally, there is a cost advantage here and “prevention is better than cure”.

I am Building a new home with natural stone cladding. When is the best time to apply the WallGuard® Wall Sealer?

The application of the WallGuard® Wall Sealer product is not intrusive and it can be applied at any time following the construction of the Building.

What type of claddings are most commonly treated with the Wallguard® Wall Sealer products?

Most porous, hard claddings can be treated including: Summer Hill Stone, Oamaru Stone, Hinuera Stone, Concrete Block, All types of fired Brick

How much does WallGuard® cost?

It is likely that your WallGuard® treatment will be well under 1% of the cost of your home. Though the total cost will depend upon the size, complexity and overall state of your walls, it is a very small amount compared to the value that it will add. Your Edwards & Hardy representative will be happy to discuss our costs with you, so that you have a clear understanding of the services you are paying for.
